General Searching for articles

This search facility enables one to quickly locate articles that have titles or authors matching the entered search text.
  • It doesn’t matter whether the searched for text is entered in upper or lower case
  • The entered text can be any portion of a word that appears somewhere within the article’s title or author text

Choosing a short word to search for can have unintentional side-effects by matching unwanted articles. In the example shown to the left, the intention was to identify articles relating to flu (the abbreviated form of influenza), as the initial search (see above) only returned 3 results;
  • flu appears in words such as flute, influence and reflux (and there are many others)
  • It matches author names, such as Fluehr and Hofflund (not shown in this example)
  • The advanced search option would allow you to meet your intended search criteria

When searching with multiple words each word is treated individually for matching purposes (as specified above), and all words must satisfy this ‘matching’ criteria for an article to be selected.
  • spaces are used to identify each ‘word’
  • searched for words need not appear in the dictionary
